As a kid, ordering virgin strawberry daiquiris was a treat. Unfortunately, as adults, we are aware that they are loaded with sugar (half a cup of commercial daiquiri mix may contain up to 33 grams of sugar!) So instead, try this all-natural strawberry daiquiri that should satisfy your “sweet tooth”.
You can use potato vodka, or rum. While rum is derived from wheat, it is said that it doesn’t contain gluten.* The other two drinks pictured are a Paleo Pina Colada and Cucumber Mint Mojito. To get the recipes for these, check them out in my new book Paleo Happy Hour.
Paleo Strawberry Daiquiri
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Serves: 4-6
Ingredients:
2 cups frozen organic strawberries (or fresh)
2 cups ice cubes
1 lime, juiced
¼ cup fresh squeezed orange juice
⅓ cup honey
8 ounces rum or potato vodka (optional)
¼ cup water
1 fresh strawberry (for garnish)
1. Blend the frozen strawberries, ice cubes, lime juice, orange juice, honey, and rum on high until smooth. If you are having a hard time blending, you can add an additional ¼ cup of water. Serve immediately. Garnish with fresh strawberry slices.
*If you want a sweeter daiquiri, you can add a little more honey. Keep in mind this will raise the sugar content. Depending on what your goals are, this may be a bad idea.
