How Big Is a Frozen Pizza? Sizes, Weights and Brands

If you are working out whether a frozen pizza will feed two people, fit on your tray or go in the air fryer, the size printed on the box is less help than you would think. Most brands list the weight and the number of serves, and only some give a diameter.

How big is a typical frozen pizza?

In the US, the standard frozen pizza is 12 inches across, which is about 30 cm. Retailer listings give that size for DiGiorno Rising Crust, Jack’s Original and Home Run Inn’s classic pizza, and Red Baron’s Classic Crust is sold to food service as a 12 inch pizza.

Australian frozen pizzas are sold by weight instead. Most supermarket pizzas sit between 310 g and 500 g, with a few larger “XXL” packs. Woolworths and Coles listings rarely state a diameter, and we have not guessed one where it is not printed.

Totino’s switched from round to rectangular party pizzas in 2016, which is why it has no diameter. Ellio’s has always been a rectangle cut into slices.

Weight is the better guide in Australia. A 300 to 360 g thin pizza suits one hungry person or two with a salad, and a 450 to 500 g family pizza goes further.

How long do you cook a frozen pizza?

Bake times depend more on crust than size, so follow the pack. These are the brands’ own instructions.

Will a frozen pizza fit in my oven?

Almost certainly. A standard 60 cm Australian wall oven is about 48 cm wide inside (Bosch’s Series 6 measures 480 mm), and a typical 30 inch US range oven is about 24 inches (61 cm) wide inside. A 30 cm pizza fits either with room to spare. If you bake straight on the rack, as most US brands suggest, make sure the rack is level so the topping does not slide.

Will a frozen pizza fit in an air fryer?

A full 12 inch pizza will not fit most home air fryers. Philips says its XL Airfryer, a 6.2 litre model, takes food up to 25 cm across, and smaller basket air fryers are narrower than that. Measure the flat base of your basket before you buy.

The brands mostly agree. DiGiorno gives air fryer instructions only for its personal-size pizzas, and Red Baron only for its Deep Dish singles. Neither gives air fryer times for a full-size pizza. How big is a frozen pizza box?

Usually only slightly bigger than the pizza, because the pizza is shrink-wrapped on a card base and the box is cut to fit. A round 12 inch pizza tends to come in a box about 12 inches square and 2.5 to 4 cm (1 to 1.5 in) deep. That makes the box a reasonable guide when the diameter is not printed: measure the box and take off a centimetre or two.

It depends on the brand and how you cut it. DiGiorno Rising Crust lists 6 serves, Red Baron Classic Crust 4, and Ellio’s comes pre-scored into 9 rectangular slices. Most 12 inch pizzas are cut into 6 or 8.

How many people does a frozen pizza feed?

A thin 300 to 400 g pizza usually feeds two with a side, and a 500 g family or rising crust pizza feeds three or four. The serving counts on US packs, typically 3 to 6, are a guide to how the brand expects it to be shared.

Is a 12 inch frozen pizza the same as a takeaway large?

No, it is usually smaller. Takeaway pizza sizes vary by chain, but a 12 inch pizza is often sold as a medium, and larges are commonly 14 inches or more.

Can you cook two frozen pizzas at once?

Yes, on two racks, though they may need a few extra minutes and swapping halfway through so both brown evenly. Check the pack, as some brands give separate instructions.
